Car Sharing, A Review: Sensible Choices for Urban Dwellers?

I'm so intrigued with a slowly emerging but uber-practical expression of car ownership. Car-sharing co-operatives are hardly a going concern, yet. There's so few around. But man do they make sense

Perhaps it's no surprise that the driving force behind car-sharing co-operatives are those sworn enemies of auto makers, environmentalists. Or at least, some pragmatic environmentalists, who realize cars can be useful from time to time.

Myles Kitagawa of Toxics Watch is one of several environmentalist volunteers behind the Car Sharing Co-operative of Edmonton."But everybody else is completely normal," he says, laughing.

Kitagawa describes the co-op as a club-style organization, with 12 members and two cars -- a Toyota Tercel and a Mazda 626. One is parked in Garneau near the university; the other in Oliver, along west Jasper Avenue.
