2010 Jaguar XJ Sedan -- Fully Redesigned Exterior and Interior: First Look

IT’s the big cat that’s got bosses full of pride! Jaguar insiders have been talking about the new XJ for months – and, with these pictures, we can finally see why they’ve been so excited.


This is our best look yet at the car described by Jaguar as one of the most radical it has ever produced. The new flagship limousine, set to make its world debut in July, has a bold shape designed to draw the limelight away from the Mercedes S-Class and BMW’s latest 7-Series.

In addition to its striking body, the new XJ will benefit from a futuristic interior, along with a range of more powerful, hi-tech engines.

As you can see, the model takes themes first seen on the widely acclaimed XF – Auto Express’s current Car of the Year – and makes them even more dramatic.

Motor Trend: Jaguar, under Tata, takes on Porsche

There's a post-colonial irony to the fate of the British auto industry.


Its two most elite names, Rolls-Royce and Bentley, now belong to the Germans, while those two other symbols of the empire, Jaguar and Land Rover, are now owned and operated out of the one-time heart of Britain's overseas holdings.

Last year, India's upstart Tata Motors purchased the last two brands from Ford Motor Co. The fire sale generated some much-needed cash for the struggling U.S. maker -- but it also offered Tata the opportunity to move into the mainstream of global auto manufacturers.

For Jaguar in particular, the transition has an ironic tinge to it.

New 2009 Jaguar XK-S Coupe Specs and Pictures

If you’re a luxury carmaker trying to make it through a global financial crisis there are essentially two things you can do to try to boost sales – reduce the cost of the cars, or load them up with extra features and gadgets in the hope that punters will appreciate the extra value. Jaguar’s Australian division has taken a twist on the latter by introducing a limited edition of its XK coupe called the XK-S and loading it up with A$25,000 worth of gear.
