Rumor - 2010 Ferrari Hybrid to be unveiled at the 2009 Los Angeles Auto Show

There has been a somewhat substantiated rumor floating around that Ferrari plans to unveil a new fleet of 2010 hybrid supercars at the 2009 L.A. Auto Show.

A hybrid Ferrari would not only be made to be more fuel efficient, but rather, handle better as well.

Although Ferrari has not revealed anything about mass producing a hybrid car, we still feel this exotic automaker has a few tricks up its sleeve. The only hint Ferrari has given is a plan to make all their cars 40% more fuel efficient and lessen emissions.

Ferrari hybrid? Why Not? (If done right)

Ferrari F430 Novitec Tulesto - Uncompromising 777hp, Only 11 Units Made

The World's Most Exclusive High-End Sports Car: The NOVITEC TuLesto with 777 hp and a Top Speed of More than 350 km/h

There are many fascinating automobiles money can buy but its spectacular design, its uncompromising high-performance concept and its limited edition of just eleven cars make the new NOVITEC TuLesto the most exclusive high-end sports car in the world.

The mid-engine racer is 204 centimeters wide and weighs in at just 1,260 kilograms. It is built by German automobile manufacturer NOVITEC in Stetten in Bavaria. At the heart of the two-seater is a V8 engine with dual superchargers and a rated power output of 777 hp / 571.8 kW. Thanks to its carbon fiber and aluminum construction the coupe has an excellent power-to-weight ratio of just 1.62 kg/hp. The result is driving performance that only very few super sports cars can match: The sprint from rest to 100 km/h takes less than 3.4 seconds, and the NOVITEC TuLesto reaches 300 km/h after just 22.6 seconds. Top speed is more than 350 km/h.

The new high-end sports car represents NOVITEC's first proprietary car and marks the company's 20th anniversary. "With the NOVITEC TuLesto we transform our collective know-how from two decades of automobile tuning into an uncompromising high-performance sports car for eleven of our long-time customers from around the world," says NOVITEC managing director Wolfgang Hagedorn."The TuLesto offers an optimal symbiosis of exceptional driving dynamics and exciting yet aerodynamically efficient styling."

Light-weight construction was one of the main goals from the very start of the NOVITEC TuLesto project. The designers materials of choice are normally found in racecars. The chassis and the integrated safety cell are made entirely from aluminum, making them extremely light while at the same time giving them extraordinary rigidity.

The striking design of the NOVITEC TuLesto is the result of a cooperation between NOVITEC and the Italian design studio Luca Serafini Stile in Modena. The unmistakable shape of the TuLesto was created using state-of-the-art CAD and CFD technologies, further augmented by the use of the wind tunnel. The TuLesto is 462 centimeters long, 204 centimeters wide and has a height of 122 centimeters.

The spectacular curves of the fenders, the front apron, the shape of the rear and the smooth underbody with integrated venturi tunnel and diffuser were calibrated in the wind tunnel to create an optimal aerodynamic balance.

For perfect weight distribution the NOVITEC TuLesto was designed with a classic mid-engine layout. The 4.4-liter four-valve V8 engine with dual superchargers is installed directly behind the cockpit. The high-tech engine produces a maximum power output of 777 hp / 571.8 kW at 8,200 rpm and a peak torque of 727 Nm at 6,300 rpm.

Motorsports was also the inspiration for the power transfer: The six gears of the semi-automatic gearbox with integrated anti-slip differential are shifted with carbon-fiber paddles behind the steering wheel. An adjustable traction control system with launch control for perfect starts guarantees maximum driving safety on the road and on the track.

Another elementary contribution to the superior driving dynamics of the NOVITEC TuLesto comes from its ultra-light light-alloy wheels with diameters of 20 or 21 inches. These wheels were custom-developed for this coupe and are fitted with semi slicks up to 355 millimeters wide on the rear axle.

The NOVITEC engineers and technicians also used racing technology on the suspension: As in GT-series racing, the TuLesto features double-wishbone suspension front and rear, height-adjustable struts with various selectable damping rates, and adjustable sway bars. For easy negotiating of underground parking ramps or similar obstacles the TuLesto front can be raised four centimeters at the push of a button. The anti-lock braking system features ceramic composite discs and six-piston fixed calipers front and back for maximum stopping power and endurance.

The interior design has a decidedly sporty nature but also offers creature comforts such as a climate-control system and a high-end sound system. Lightweight carbon fiber plays a dominating role in the interior as well: It is used for dashboard, center console and door trim as well as for the bucket seats which will be custom-fitted in form, shape, size, color and upholstery to each of the eleven future owners.

The creation of the eleven Limited Edition NOVITEC TuLesto super sports cars can be viewed in a web special at www.TuLesto.com.

Updated Ferrari F450 information on New V8 Engine and Chassis Posted Yesterday 05:41 PM by luciscup Filed under: Auto News, Ferrari, Supercars Fe

Ferrari F450/F500/F142/whatever: tell me about the tech!

Per Car Magazine UK: "This is where it gets interesting. The F142 project will stick with a V8 slung amidships, but apart from that the engineering recipe is markedly different from the F430’s. It’s an important advance: the V8 makes up three-quarters of Ferrari’s entire production.

We’re still not sure of the V8’s capacity, but it will definitely use Bosch-developed direct injection operating at exceptionally high pressures for this 500bhp application. One source we spoke to suggested the new car will use a downsized, turbocharged V8 to lower emissions and consumption, but other reports suggest a capacity stretched out to 4.5 litres or beyond. Expect plenty of details to lower internal friction, including super-polished camshafts to boost efficiency.

Whatever the final size, it’ll still be a high-rev screamer – such is the Ferrari way – and the California’s seven-speed twin-clutch transmission is set to provide the finger-flicking gearbox thrills. However, Ferrari’s software will be tuned for more sporting shift points than on the California GT...Continued

Ferris Bueller's Ferrari Adventures Relived with Replica 250 GT California

Deriving their names from the 250-cc displacement of each engine cylinder, Ferrari's 250 range cemented the brand's status as the preeminent sports car builder in the world. Thanks to Ferris Bueller, the 250 GT California ("Che bella!") is by far the most recognizable. But we're not using a 250 GT California for our own day off because, frankly, John Hughes didn't use one for his, either. The movie car, a "Classic GT250" replica kit by defunct coachbuilder Modena Design, used a small-block Ford V8 in a custom tube chassis. The prancing pony we've procured is a 250 GTO replica that was a Datsun 280Z in a former life, and it's probably just as well that this Z is not the basis for a convertible — cutting the top off this thing would result in a lack of body rigidity to rival a Karate-era Elvis. Some regard the original Ferrari GTO, born from the desirable short-wheelbase 250 chassis, as the finest Ferrari to ever leave Maranello. Plastic windows brought weight down, while Testa Rossa heads and six yelping Weber carbs brought power up. Without the GTO, racing in the '60s may not have escalated the way it did; Carroll Shelby might not have built the Daytona Coupe; Henry Ford II probably wouldn't have commissioned the GT40; and Ferruccio Lamborghini would probably have stuck to building tractors. With that storied history, and an estimated value of over $10 million, we wouldn't expect one to brave Chicago's traffic any time soon.

Lucky for us, 54,954 Datsun 280Z two-seaters were sold in the States in 1977, and those cars happen to make perfect GTO replicas, provided you're handy with the fiberglass and a paint gun. Even luckier for us, we've got one of the most accurate ones in the country, with over 2500 hours of care and precision behind it. Its own little tea party of the Axis powers, this Ferrari-inspired, Datsun-based replica puts down 485 horsepower at the rear wheels, courtesy of a BMW 750iL's V12 engine and an 850CSi's 6-speed manual transmission. If the resulting sound and fury isn't enough to convince many skeptics that this thing's the real deal, the right-hand drive will. After all, no one would be crazy enough to convert a replica to right-drive, would they?

But this car's the owner, Michelle Lonnecker, is quick to tell me she isn't done yet. The dry-sump conversion, the hand-built linkages, and the one-off engine management system are great, she says, but it really needs velocity-stack intakes and twelve individual throttle bodies to reach its full potential. Be still my heart.

Following Ferris's route downtown from the fictional suburb of Shermer is tricky unless you're into figure eights. In one scene, the car is shown rounding the Ohio Street off-ramp from I-90, while in the next Ferris is taking his hands off the wheel to irritate Cameron on Lake Shore Drive — two areas which, for those of you not familiar with Chicago, are on opposite sides of the downtown Loop area...Continued

Ferrari 612 Scaglietti with V12 Engine -- Spied!

It seems like just yesterday that Ferrari's 612 Scaglietti was launched but it's been almost five years already - time for a mid-cycle restyling.

That restyling is expected to be primarily focused at the front of the car, with a focus on giving it an edgier, more up-to-the-minute look, however, the new look may be joined by a greener powertrain as well.

According to Autoweek.nl, where this image was sourced, a replacement for the oldest model in Ferrari’s lineup is due in 2011 but before then the facelifted model is due and with it possibly a brand new V12 powerplant.

Frankfurt Motor Show: Ferrari F450 Prototype -- Spied!

Spy photographer Brenda Priddy has just served up a fresh look at the Ferrari F450, the car set to replace the F430 in Ferrari's lineup later this year.

From this prototype, spotted being loaded into a hauler, we see that the styling us updated but not a radical departure from the F430.

The new model designation comes from an increase in displacement for the V8 to 4.5 liters.

Spy shots: Ferrari F430 replacement up close

Ferrari F430 replacement

The first examples of Ferrari’s latest model, the California convertible, are just starting to hit showrooms around the world but already development on several all-new models is well underway. Late last year we saw images of a shortened 599 testing in Germany, suggesting that Ferrari may be working a new compact front-engined model, and now we have new spy shots of the replacement for the F430.

The images depict a test mule for the next-generation F430 hidden under the body of the current model. A sticker located at the side of one of the windows shows the internal codename ‘F142’ but the actual name of the car is more likely to be based on the size of the engine just like the current F430. Recent speculation has suggested that the new model will be fitted with a 4.5L V8 engine and labeled the F450. However, it is still too early to confirm what Ferrari has planned as the car isn’t expected to be launched until late next year at the earliest.

Some details we can gather from the spy shots include bigger air intakes at the sides of the car, a new centrally mounted exhaust system and a slightly longer wheelbase. The new shots show a wider track both at the front and rear axles as well as an additional pair of intakes located behind the rear window.

While the styling of the F430 replacement is expected to remain similar to the current model, the car’s mechanicals could be very different. Ferrari has confirmed that it is looking at a range of powertrain advancements including hybrid and turbocharging technologies, as well as the introduction of lighter construction methods and active aerodynamics.

The new model is expected to go on sale towards the end of next year but Ferrari is rumored to be preparing an early reveal at September’s Frankfurt Motor Show.

Car Auction: Boca Raton - 2010 Audi R8 FSI V10 and 2010 Ferrari California

While the 2010 Audi R8 5.2 V10 FSI isn’t confirmed to come to the stateside, the first unit of the car will be auctioned off at the Boca Raton Concours d’ Elegance. The new V10 powered R8 will be joined by the first unit of the Ferrari California (for the U.S. at least).

Despite the current economic situation, both cars are expected to draw a significant bid. Proceeds from the auction will go to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Broward County. Deal Or No Deal and Howie Do It star Howie Mandell will be on hand to auction off the two cars and we expect him to say “deal or no deal” at the end of the auction.
