2010 Infiniti M Series Spied Test Driving in Arizona - Next Generation

Too bad we don’t live in Arizona otherwise we would have been chasing down a heavy camouflaged Nissan Fuga, otherwise known as the Infiniti M35/45 in the United States.

Spies have spotted a very stylish Fuga redesign driving around in Arizona, which will make its official debut at the 2009 Tokyo Motor Show.

2009 Infiniti G37x S Sedan Performance and Specs. Driven by Motor Trend

As a general rule, adding weight to a car is to be avoided if at all possible, as it's a detriment to performance and fuel economy. Adjust your goals, though, and it becomes a reasonable tradeoff. Take for example the 2009 Infiniti G37x S, an all wheel-drive version of Infiniti's star entry-luxury car.

If you skip straight ahead to the numbers, you'll find the G37x S is heavier and slower and doesn't handle quite as well as the G37 S sedan, but the numbers don't tell the whole story. Infiniti clearly designed its G37x cars to outperform their rear-drive G37 counterparts in less-than-ideal weather conditions, such as those in cold weather states during the winter.

While the all-wheel-drive G37x S would likely fair considerably better on snow-covered roads than the standard G37 S, on hot, dry asphalt, it falls slightly behind. The only major difference between the 2009 G37 S sedan we tested late last year and the G37x S sedan we just tested is the inclusion of Infiniti's "Advanced Total Traction Engineering System for All Electronic Torque Split" all-wheel-drive system lifted from Infiniti's crossovers, along with the seven-speed automatic transmission. Both cars featured the same 328-hp, 3.7L V-6 producing 269 lb-ft of torque and both were equipped with the optional Sport package.

Canned! Nissan GTR version for Infiniti

It’s been one of those rumors that has become a pain in the arse for many of us. Will there or won’t there be an Infiniti-badged, Nissan GT-R based sedan? It has been rumored for some time now that the Nissan was working on an high-performance, all-wheel-drive sedan for the luxury brand that carries the same twin-turbo V6 as Godzilla - until now.

Even if the Infiniti Essence concept was giving you any hope that Nissan will produce a four-door-coupe-like supercar, you are about to be disappointed.

According to Inside Line, who spoke with Nissan’s Senior VP of Sales and Marketing Brian Carolin, both plans are “just not a priority in today’s climate.”

Nissan Infiniti takes on BMW M Series by 2010

A Mercedes S-class-sized limousine, a new all-wheel-drive seven-seat SUV and an all-electric entry-level model are in the pipeline for growing Japanese premium car maker Infiniti.

2010: an all-new ‘M’-badged 5-series-chaser - Next year, we’ll see the introduction of the Japanese firm’s all-new ‘M’-badged mid-size executive saloon.

This car will be engineered to accept Infiniti’s 3.7-litre V6 petrol engine, and its forthcoming 3.0-litre V6 turbodiesel – although both the EX and FX SUVs will get the V6 oil-burner V6 before that.

A hybrid petrol-electric version of the M is also in the pipeline, but has yet to be confirmed for Europe. No V8 options are currently planned.

Infiniti's Future Plans:

2011:
a brand new flagship SUV
2012: Infiniti goes after the Quattroporte
Beyond 2012: an electric 1-series-fighter?

Infiniti G37 Convertible Review by Motor Trend

It used to be that Japanese car companies were just copy machines: They seldom came up with anything original, preferring to replicate (while refining) someone else's idea. That hasn't been the case for decades, but there's no doubt Infiniti keeps a close eye on what BMW does. If a sporty, well-appointed, front-engine, rear-drive, retractable hardtop coupe with a lusty six-cylinder engine is good for BMW, it must be good for Infiniti['s G37 convertible]. Turns out, it is.

The G37 Convertible is only the second drop-top in the brand's history. No mere chop job this, as the body panels and chassis components aft of the A-pillar are new for this application. The top is built by Germany's Karmann, an outfit known for this kind of thing. Its opening-and-closing act takes about 30 seconds either way, and the interior headliner covers every bit of the top's frame and mechanism. The strange proportions common to retractables built on coupe architecture don't afflict the G; it's nicely balanced from any angle, and overall length increases by a mere quarter inch. Infiniti offers a removable windblocker that reduces buffeting and noise levels substantially. It's possible to drive without this component in place, but you wouldn't want to (unless you have guests who need to ride in back, which can't be done with the blocker installed). The blocker also covers the back-seat area, giving the car a bit of a roadster look. It's a shame Infiniti has the nerve to charge extra for it on a car that will average around $50K. Hidden rollover-protection bars snap into position with the onset of impending doom....Continued
