2010 LR4 Land Rover - First Look, New Pictures

When Land Rover introduced the current-generation Discovery, there was a global split, and what became our LR3 was the world's Discovery 3. It made sense once the LR2 came out-the nomenclature implied smaller model, smaller-number designation. That's not the case, as evidenced by the new LR4. For Land Rover, a different number simply means it's that significant a change from the LR3 -- and this is the fourth generation of the vehicle. (Of course, they have it much easier where it can be called Discovery 4.)

That aside, the newest LR is significantly different from its predecessor. The LR4 uses an all-new 5.0L, direct-injection V-8. That's a significant increase in size from the current 4.4L. This engine was designed in-house (by Jaguar Land Rover) and will look familiar to those who know the XF. With the new engine comes more power: 375 hp and 375 lb-ft of torque, up from 300 and 315, respectively. The new engine uses variable camshaft timing, which works independently on all four camshafts, improving engine response. This V-8 also boasts lower fuel consumption, reduced CO2 emissions, and is ULEV2-compliant. It's backed by a revised ZF HP-28 six-speed automatic, and its changes contribute to the vehicle's improved fuel economy (not yet rated) and are said to make shifts quicker and more refined...Continued

Spyker C8 Double 12S pushes 600hp courtesy of MTM

German tuning firm MTM has done some remarkable work over the years, taking anything from Ferraris and Porsches or even dropping two engines into an Audi TT.

Now, the engineers at MTM have worked their magic on the Dutch-built Spyker C8 Double 12S - the special road-going variant of the C8 Double 12R Le Mans racer.

The Spyker C8 Double 12S was already a strong performer when it was envisaged at the factory, with performance figures that would rival most supercars from the major Italian marques. Featuring almost 600hp (448kW) in its most potent form, and 400hp (298kW) in its more toned down variant, the 4.2L Audi V8 in the Spyker C8 Double 12S could already push the car to a top speed of around 214mph, or 186mph with the 400hp (298kW) model.

Truck Trend: How Ranger Rover kept Land Rover on the Road

2010 Land Rover Range Rover SUV to debut at the 2009 New York Auto Show

2007 was an exciting year for the Range Rover Sport, it received a mild makeover and more importantly adopted the 3.6L twin turbo diesel V8 from its big brother Range Rover. So what are we to make of these inquisitive spy shots taken in the Arctic Circle? The grill appears to have been mildly modified with two horizontal strips as opposed to three of the current car. The other subtle difference, and you have to look even closer for this one, is that the wing vents are not the same as the usual RR Sport.

We know that Landrover and Jaguar are preparing a new 5.0L Gasoline V8 for their premium products and it just may be that this vehicle is running that very engine. The new V8 is said to be state of the art equipped with direct injection and a supercharger for the top end models.

2009 Land Rover Discovery + Body Kit - New 2010 Disco Preview?

Okay, okay. Hands up! We've miscredited the car pictured here as being the new, 2010 model year Discovery. Land Rover's not showing the facelifted Disco until next month, and we thought this was the 2010 Disco out early. But we got this one wrong... it's a bodykitted current gen Discovery.

We at CAR Online aren't too big to admit when we were wrong, so here's our correction. But the gist of the original story is still bang-on. So read on for the detail of the 2010 Disco – just ignore the bodykitted current model in our pictures!

So what is new on the 2010 Discovery?

Visually, it'll be a minor facelift. There's not much wrong with the Discovery's Tonka-toy styling, so the Gaydon designers will keep the updates low-key, with updated bumper, grille and light details. Although we can't see inside the new Disco, we hear there will be a tidied-up interior too.

Motor Trend drives Land Rover LRX Concept

Land Rover's announcement that it plans to move forward on a production version of the stylish LRX concept -- and badge it as a Range Rover -- following a $37 million development grant from the UK government is significant news.

Even more significant, however, is the revelation from Land Rover North America sales and marketing chief Chris Marchand that "for the vehicle to be successful, there will need to be a five door [version]."

The beautifully detailed and artfully proportioned LRX, designed under the direction of former Lincoln design chief Gerry McGovern, is a sporty three door. McGovern insists the LRX, which is based on the Land Rover LR2 platform, could be turned into a production vehicle with relatively few cosmetic changes. The three door version would like be the entry-level model, while the five door would compete with Mercedes-Benz GLK, Audi Q5, and BMW X3.

Giving Range Rover a competitor in the booming small luxury SUV category is the key reason for the badge change. It also means the Land Rover LR2 will continue as the company's entry-level vehicle here in the United States.
