Honda has announced some details of its showing at the upcoming Chicago Auto Show next month. Interesting, the announcement involves the automaker's luxury brand.

According to the press release, Honda plans to debut a "newly refined 2012 TL". Acura isn’t releasing any information on the 2012 TL just yet, but it’s safe to say the car’s front grille will be revised from the 2011 model shown here. Now that the MDX and ZDX have received the six-speed automatic transmission, don’t be surprised if the TL gets it, as well. Currently, the 2011 TL is rated 18/26 mpg city/highway in front-wheel-drive form, with a five-speed automatic. A six-speed automatic would likely increase those figures.

Newly Refined 2012 Acura TL To Debut At Chicago Auto Show

01/24/2011 - TORRANCE, Calif. Acura today announced it will debut the newly refined 2012 TL at the Chicago Auto Show. The TL, which recently received the 2011 ALG Residual Value Award for Best Near Luxury Car, further enhances its position in the segment with aggressive, yet refined styling and performance.

Jeff Conrad, vice president of Acura sales, will introduce the production vehicle at the press conference, to be held on February 9, 2011 in the Acura booth. The press conference will be webcast live on www.acuranews.com.

Well, this is interesting. Possibly relating to the heavy winter storms that hit much of the country over the past few months, Honda saw its light trucks division grow by 31.8 percent, versus its cars only gaining 14.2 percent over last February. Its all-wheel drive Element crossover saw an upswing of 35-percent, or an additional 322 models over last year’s 919.

Still, Honda’s bread-and-butter vehicles -- which include the Accord, the Civic, and the CR-V -- all continue to be strong sellers this February selling 22,916, 19,121, and 19,096 units, respectively. The Fit subcompact saw gains of 43.6 percent, up to 4200 vehicles sold last month. At 8744 units, the new Odyssey minivan increased sales by 17.3 percent, selling just 520 more models than the Pilot SUV (up 23.3 percent compared to last year).

The staff over at Automobile Magazine recently posted some news on the Honda Fit Hybrid, scheduled to debut at the Paris Motor Show next month.

As has been long speculated, the Fit Hybrid uses a powertrain Honda hybrid enthusiasts are most certainly familiar with. Honda packs the same parallel hybrid powertrain used in the current Insight into the little Fit hatchback, providing it with a 1.3-liter I-4, a continuously variable transmission, and an electric motor sandwiched between the two. According to Honda, the setup is good for 98 horsepower and 123 pound-feet of torque, which isn't a dramatic departure from the 117 ponies and 106 pound-feet delivered by the Fit's standard 1.5-liter I-4.

To flaunt its green powertrain, Honda dressed the Fit Hybrid up with a new grille, blue-tinted headlamps, revised bumper skins, clear taillights, and chrome tailgate trim. If that isn't attention-grabbing enough for buyers, they can spring for an unique Lime Green metallic paint (pictured). Inside, Honda blessed the cabin with a new dashboard and instrument panel (here's hoping they're rolled out across the entire Fit lineup), and European models are offered with optional leather seating surfaces.

Fuel economy and emissions figures for the Fit Hybrid haven't been finalized, but early reports suggest it bests the Insight's 40/43 mpg (city/highway) EPA ratings, which places it far ahead of the 28/35 mpg rating earned by a normal Fit with an automatic transmission. Expect Honda's preliminary numbers to emerge closer to the auto show, along with a price tag. We've heard rumors that the Fit could undercut the Insight's price tag with a base price of roughly $17,800.

According to Honda, sales of the Fit Hybrid will begin in Europe early next year, but a timetable for a possible U.S. launch has yet to be announced.

Honda is stepping up the game in the mid-size segment with a couple of additions to its 2010 Honda Accord.

For 2010, Honda added new features including Bluetooth connectivity on models equipped with leather seating (previously it was only available with a navigation-equipped model) and new rear seat ventilation ducts on the Accord sedan EX and EX-L models...

Press Release:

2010 Honda Accord Adds New Features on Select Models

Upgrades include expanded application of Bluetooth and available new rear seat vents

08/19/2009 - Torrance, CA - Available as a sedan or a coupe, the Accord is designed to impress with a quality feel, engaging performance and accommodating technology.

The 2010 Honda Accord lineup receives new features on certain models with an expanded application of Bluetooth® HandsFreeLink® to vehicles equipped with leather seating surfaces (previously exclusive to navigation-equipped models) and new rear seat ventilation ducts on Accord Sedan EX and EX-L models for more-direct rear passenger airflow. Subtle modifications include graphically optimized climate control buttons and the addition of a trunk roof lining on Accord EX models.

“The Honda Accord offers something for a diverse range of people seeking anything from a comfortable family car to an aggressive coupe with looks and power,” said Erik Berkman, vice president of American Honda Motor *** Inc. “The feature changes to the 2010 Honda Accord elevates its appeal and supports a legendary reputation as a class leader for quality and customer satisfaction.”

The Accord Sedan’s exterior expresses an upscale and powerful presence with a distinctive 6-sided grille, flared fenders and inset character lines sculpted into the sides of the body. Building on the sedan’s design character, the Accord Coupe’s unique muscular stance is highlighted by a longer hood, projector beam headlights and a sleek, lower-profile roofline.

Interior styling on all models seeks to provide attainable luxury with generous standard equipment, world-class ergonomics and intuitive vehicle controls. Available premium features include the Honda Satellite-Linked Navigation1 SystemTM with Voice Activation and XM® Radio2 . The front seats are designed to provide generous lateral support and complement the Accord’s sporty side. The fold-down, lockable rear seatback increases cargo-carrying versatility and also includes a lockable pass-through for long items like snow skis.

New for 2010, a more-contrasting “lighter” gray color theme for the climate control buttons on all models helps to better differentiate the system controls in relation to nearby dark gray audio system buttons. Models equipped with the available dual-zone automatic climate control enhance the manual fan control override button to include on/off functionality with corresponding changes to the button graphic. For additional simplicity, the dual-zone activation button name changes to “SYNC” from “DUAL.”

Available engine choices include a V-6 and a 4-cylinder engine. The 3.5-liter, 24-valve SOHC i-VTEC® V-6 engine produces 271-horsepower and takes advantage of Variable Cylinder ManagementTM (VCM®) technology that can deactivate up to half of the cylinders while cruising to improve fuel economy. The VCM system contributes to an EPA city/highway fuel economy rating of 19/293 miles per gallon in the Accord Sedan V-6.

The performance-oriented Accord V-6 Coupe with 6-speed manual transmission exclusively has a 3.5-liter V-6 VTEC engine (without VCM, hence no “i” in VTEC) that offers an exclusive valvetrain, intake and exhaust system that broadens the torque curve in the low- to mid-rpm range.

A 190-horsepower 2.4-liter, 16-valve DOHC i-VTEC 4-cylinder engine is standard in the Accord Sedan EX, EX-L and Accord Coupe LX-S, EX and EX-L. The 2.4-liter Accord Sedan LX and LX-P four-cylinder engine produces 177 hp and features a DOHC i-VTEC valvetrain system. When equipped with the available automatic transmission, both 4-cylinder engines achieve an EPA rating of 21/31miles per gallon3 city/highway.

Available transmissions include a 5-speed manual (standard with all 4-cylinder engines), a 5-speed automatic (available with all 4-cylinder engines and standard on V-6-powered models) and an available 6-speed manual transmission on the Accord Coupe EX-L V-6.

Honda has been building the Accord for over 30 years, fine-tuning it with each generation to the point where it's become the benchmark car in the midsize-family-sedan class. The Accord defines what Americans want in their midsize vehicle: reliability, comfort, performance, and affordability.

This latest Accord has gone through some changes and, this time, some of those changes aren't necessarily so good. For 2008, Honda made substantial exterior and interior styling changes to the Accord, going for a more modern, edgy look and feel, which some liked and others didn't. Along with the styling changes came size changes: Everything on the 2008 Accord got bigger. The interior and exterior dimensions have grown significantly, and the new 3.5-liter V-6 is bigger and more powerful than the last generation V-6.

For all those reasons, we had to get the 2008 Honda Accord EX-L into our long-term fleet to see if all these alterations actually improved the car or just changed it (Continued)

2010 Toyota Prius Sales are Up, 2010 Honda Insight Sales are Down - US Market

Despite the fact that it was the first automaker to introduce hybrids to North America back in 1999, Honda has struggled to maintain a coherent strategy to market its hybrids, leaving success in the segment to Toyota and its wildly popular Prius.

Although all signs indicated Honda might finally have a hit on its hands with the second-generation Insight, it seems Honda has been overshadowed once again by the competition...

06, 2009 - TORRANCE, Calif. -- The Honda CR-V, the top-selling CUV in the U.S., and the Honda Ridgeline pickup ranked highest in their respective segments in the J.D. Power and Associates 2009 Initial Quality Study℠ (IQS), American Honda Motor *** Inc., announced today.

Honda's East Liberty, Ohio manufacturing facility, which assembles the Honda CR-V, also received a coveted Gold Plant award, ranking it as the top factory in the Americas.

The study ranked nameplates and vehicles based on survey reports of Problems Per Hundred (PP100 studied).

2009 Honda Civic Type-R Mugen Tune Goes for Sale in Europe This Summer

Seen here is Mugen's upcoming European-market only Civic Type R done up with the tuner's latest go-fast goodies. We first got wind of it last week, but we've only recently had the chance to show you its meaner demeanor.

By the way, a pretty penny -- try between $57,000 and $65,000 -- will be needed to get you one of these come this summer. We'd much rather spend half that amount for a turbo Ford RS if we lived in Europe, but that's just us. Honda heads and naturally-aspirated sport-hatch enthusiasts pretty much got it made though. These cars have been raced by drivers such as Jacques Villeneuve, Jenson Button and Rubens Barichello. The race cars will be sold as rolling chassis, without engines and some electronic components, and are expected to fetch £7,000-£22,000 each.
