Although press days for the Beijing Auto Show don’t start until Friday, BMW invited us out a few days early for an update on its operations in China. It was to be a grand affair, complete with a tour of BMW’s factory in Shenyang, until the volcanic ash cloud over Europe kept several key executives from attending and scuttled that side trip. We did manage to check out BMW’s Chendebao dealership, one of five dealerships in the Beijing area, and it was quite an eye-opening experience. From the outside, BMW Chendebao looks like any modern, big city sheetmetal dealer. Floor-to-ceiling windows cover a structural steel lattice on the outside of this large two-story structure...

As much as the WRX and WRX STI prove that Subaru can build a great sports sedan, you’d think Subaru could just scale up that DNA to make the Legacy GT something special. Alas, that’s not the case.

When you go up a notch in size, you get a far less satisfying machine. One suspects that the Legacy GT is compromised because it shares the same platform as the Outback. The Outback has a very different mission, and being the nameplate on which the modern Subaru franchise has been built, you have to figure that the Outback was (correctly) given precedence over the Legacy GT, a niche sporty variant of the Legacy sedan. This latest Legacy GT sedan—and it is sedan only, as Legacy station wagons of any type are no longer sold in the USA—is easily the best-looking to date...

Automobile Magazine had a chance to check out several pre-productions models of the Chevrolet Cruz, the brand’s compact entry against segment leaders Honda Civic, Toyota Corolla, and even the current Ford Focus*.
